Quentin is a leading light in
the world of shipping.

In Chambers and Partners High Net Worth guide, Quentin is praised as someone who is a brilliant arbitrator, absolutely brilliant. Chambers recognises that He has vast experience, he’s very commercially minded and very hands-on.

Experience

Quentin qualified as a solicitor in 1981 and then returned to college to take a Masters degree in Marine Law and policy at Cardiff University before joining the Shipping Group at Lovell, White and King (now Hogan Lovells). Quentin is steeped in shipping, having spent his entire career involved in shipping and commodities disputes at top City of London Law firms, including 14 years at Simmons & Simmons as a partner and head of the International Trade and Shipping Group and a member of the Litigation Department and Arbitration Groups. In 2004, he founded the highly regarded luxury asset law firm Bargate Murray.

Quentin is a supporting member of LMAA and an accredited IYAC arbitrator. He accepts appointments as an arbitrator on LMAA or IYAC terms, and also on “ad hoc” terms. He particularly appreciates work as a sole arbitrator, but is equally at home as a Tribunal member. Additionally, with considerable mediation experience, he is able to bring parties together and help the process of resolving a dispute through mediation, thereby reducing costs and saving time.

In recent years, Quentin has developed an unusually deep experience of the complex world of superyacht disputes. His experience of superyachts marks Quentin out as an obvious choice for appointment as an arbitrator or mediator (as well as an advisor generally) in regard to disputes that affect them.

Whilst a partner at Simmons & Simmons, Quentin gained a deep understanding of the wider shipping industry, including dry cargo claims, commodities, charterparty and bill of lading disputes.

Quentin is a member of the Baltic Exchange, a member of the Nautical Institute (MNI) and a member of the Royal Thames Yacht Club. His wide commercial experience means Quentin is eligible for appointments that require a “commercial man” or appointments that are restricted to members of the Baltic Exchange.
